Telstar, the retro rocket shaped black nickel Lava Lamp by Mathmos in yellow with red lava. Inspired by the late 60s Space Race, this fantastic lava lamp is made by British craftsmen in Poole, Dorset (home of the original Mathmos company when they started in 1963). Featuring top quality precision cast metal finished case in a high shine black nickel plate, a Yorkshire made high quality branded glass bottle and Mathmos unique lava formula.
The first ever lava lamp was invented by Edward Craven Walker, the founder of Mathmos, in 1963. The first Astro style Lava Lamp was developed from a design for an egg timer using two liquids, spotted by Craven Walker in a Dorset pub. Craven Walker spent years developing this into a light for manufacture initially using cocktail and orange squash bottles and founded the Mathmos company - taking its name from the cult 1960s French Sci Fi comic strip Barbarella. The Mathmos is the bubble liquid force under the city. The lava lamp became a cultural icon in the 60s and 70s - no home was complete without one!
