'Tornado' trainers were introduced by Walsh in 1983 for athletes competing in major marathons and races across the globe, most notably the 1983 London Marathon.
Ventile was originally developed at the Shirley Institute in Manchester and was designed as an alternative for flax (used for hose pipes and water buckets), but was also found to be ideal for clothing and of course footwear. In wet weather, the tightly woven softly spun yarns dynamically expand to form an effective barrier against the elements, making Ventile the perfect fabric for general outdoors sports and functional fashion.
