Vorticism was a radical art movement that descended from the Cubism style. A distinct mechanical element and it's embrace of all things modern (a link that is shared with Futurism), Vorticism views modern life as bold lines and harsh colours often drawing attention to the centre of the canvas. Ezra Pound, a major figure in the Modernist movement, coned the term Vorticism in 1913. A light that shone brightly during the early years of WW1, primarily through the literary magazine BLAST, of which there were two war editions, the second appearing in July 1915. Thirty three days after the first edition of Blast was released, War was declared on Germany and several of the leading proponents of the Vorticism movement would go on to be killed fighting in the front lines or simply lost faith in Modernism. Though a key figure in the movement, Wyndham Lewis attempted to revive the movement after WW1, Vorticism and it's imagery seemed too real and closely resembled mechanised warfare that was still looming large in the memory. This REalm & Empire Mens Retro Vortex T-shirt is an affectionate and nostalgic interpretation of the Vorticism style, using bold shapes and lines to create a striking and mechanized print.
