In 1962 legendary Pop Artist Andy Warhol played with stencils and silk screens that illuminated such a simple subject as Campbell's Soup Cans. Though several theories exist regarding the motivation of the famous art work we like to think it came about due to Warhol's fondness of the subject, a penchant for partaking in soup consumption!
... and what's the significance of the Dollar Sign. Warhol openly acknowledged his love of money and he happily reflected this in his art. In he early 1960s he experimented by depicting one dollar bills within his art and returned to the same concept in the 1980s. He re-visited and re-interpreted his own art through silk screen imagery. As it was based on his own marker pen and ink drawing from the 1960s, Warhol even kept the original ink splatters within his design. Coming from a relatively poor family, Warhol's upbringing in Industrial Pittsburgh perhaps helped mould his fascination of money as a subject of his art. Warhol's work often reflected on the commercialisation of art, adding extra significance to the dollar sign. In this respect he was way ahead of his time.

From his New York City studio, nicknamed The Factory, iconic and legendary artist Andy Warhol masterminded a whole new concept in Pop Art, transforming the landscape of contemporary art. Erasing distinctions between fine art and popular culture, Warhol's imagery captured the essence of the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies era.
