Lyle & Scott Mod Casuals for Winter 2018
Lyle & Scott's popular Mod Casuals range has just launched the Winter 2018 styles, now in stock at Atom Retro. Men's polos, tees, parkas, track tops, shirts and more, all from one of the firm favourites of the 80s casuals scenes.
What are Mod Casuals?
Mod Casuals, also knows as Football Casuals or just simply Casuals, is a British subculture originating from the football terraces of the mid to late 70s and into the 80s. In terms of style, the Casuals look crossed over into part of the Mod subculture and look, but concentrated more on wearing designer 'clobber', typically split in to retro sporty 'Terrace' brands for the daytime, and more dressy, designer clothing worn for evenings and nights at pubs or clubs. Favourite Mod Casuals brands in the day wear category include Fila Vintage, Sergio Tacchinni and Ellesse, and in the night wear category Gabicci Vintage, Fred Perry and of course, Lyle and Scott. Like with classic Mod and other Mod subcultures, the look - particularly for the night out wear - was clean cut, smart and sharp. The rise of the Casuals and the Mod Casuals look was also linked to football hooliganism in the early 80s when many 'football hooligans' started to wear smart designer clothing and sportswear instead of football shirts or club colours to evade the attention of the police.
What is Lyle & Scott's Mod Casuals range?
Lyle & Scott, a Scottish knitwear brand founded in 1874 and previously best known for their golfing look, was one of the favourite brands worn by Casuals in the late 70s and 80s. As a nod to this subculture heritage, Lyle & Scott have designed a small range of Mod Casuals clothing for the last three seasons and the look is echoed in this December's winter capsule collection, concentrating this time on mod Argyle patterns and traditional Lyle & Scott Scottish checks and tartans.
