In the 1920's, following in the footsteps of his father, Eugene (whom founded the original shoe factory in 1892), Patrice Bénéteau, took over the factory and began making shoes for the local football team. He did such a good job with these shoes, that it wasn't long before other teams started knocking at his door. Patrice expanded his range of footwear in to Basketball, athletics and cricket. In 1929, Patrice started to sponsor famous sports people (he was one of the pioneers of this marketing strategy).

It was in 1945 that Patrice would change the name of his sports brand to Patrick (an anglicised version of the name) a name that would open up the world wide export market to the brand.
